Phone test compatibility: iPhone, Android and browser limits
Check which interfaces your browser exposes and understand the difference between supported, permitted and working.

Check this browser first
Use the Check browser support button on the Phone Test homepage. It inspects interface availability without starting a camera or microphone. A present interface does not establish permission, connected hardware or a usable result. Run the relevant test to make that observation.
Camera and microphone
These checks require permission and a secure context. Input labels may only become available after access is granted. A camera preview and a microphone recording also use different capabilities: successful capture does not guarantee that every recording format can play.
Testing on iPhone
Open Phone Test in a full browser and start each permission-dependent test yourself. If the motion test offers an access prompt, use it before expecting readings. When a feature is unavailable, use the corresponding built-in app for a separate comparison and record the browser result as unsupported. Do not assume a webpage can access every sensor or camera lens.
Testing on Android
Check both site permissions and permissions for the browser app. Disconnect unwanted Bluetooth audio before testing the built-in microphone or speaker. Browser choice, device settings and manufacturer behaviour can affect access; the Android name alone does not guarantee that every test runs.
Touch, Bluetooth and flashlight
Multitouch requires actual simultaneous screen contacts; a mouse cannot substitute for fingers. Web Bluetooth availability is limited and it targets compatible BLE peripherals. Flashlight access depends on camera torch controls exposed by the browser. An absent interface is not proof of broken hardware.
Timing and embedded browsers
Keep refresh measurements visible and avoid switching apps mid-test. If a social or messaging app’s embedded browser cannot request a permission, open Phone Test directly in a full browser and compare. Record the browser and operating system when reporting different behaviour.
