Camera, GPS and Bluetooth checks: understand browser limits

Separate unavailable browser features from phone faults when checking cameras, location, Bluetooth, motion and flashlight.

Use the right outcome

An unsupported feature is not a failed component. Browser capability, site permission and the phone’s operating system all affect access. When a browser cannot expose a feature, choose Not supported or skip the test and record the limitation. Do not mark hardware faulty solely because a button is unavailable.

Front and rear cameras

Run each camera test separately. Allow camera access when prompted, verify the preview and check that the selected view matches the camera you intended to inspect. Use a well-lit, non-private subject and compare near and distant details. A preview confirms that a stream is available; it does not certify every lens, stabilisation mode or video format on the phone.

Location accuracy

The GPS-labelled test displays the browser’s location result. That result can use different location sources and does not by itself prove that a satellite receiver was used. The accuracy value is an estimated radius in metres at a 95% confidence level. A smaller reported radius is a narrower estimate, not a guarantee that the actual position is exact. Do not share precise coordinates in a support screenshot.

Bluetooth compatibility

Web Bluetooth supports interactions with Bluetooth Low Energy peripherals and has limited browser availability. A successful connection to a selected device does not verify every Bluetooth profile or audio accessory. If the browser does not offer the API, use the phone’s Bluetooth settings for a separate check rather than treating that absence as a broken radio.

Motion and flashlight

Follow the on-screen prompt for sensor permission if one is shown. Move the phone gently while holding it securely and observe whether readings change. For the flashlight, test only if the browser exposes the required camera control. A missing control does not establish that the lamp is faulty. Compare with the phone’s built-in flashlight control.

When to investigate further

Repeat a symptom with the corresponding built-in app or settings screen. Record the exact test, permission state and browser. Consistent problems across independent checks deserve further assessment; a single blocked browser request is not enough to diagnose damage.
